Ths month's song is Shunya. Like Chand, this too was composed for a film of the same name, directed by Arindam Mitra. Shunya the film has not been released. The lyrics by Sanjeev Sharma talk about a man who has reached an absolute nadir, complete disillusionment, and is unable to see a way out. It's very difficult to make a song about nothingness, and this one took us about 4 months in 2007. The Bengali lyrics emerged from Asheem's head, possibly line from a poem he'd read many moons ago. Rahul plays the alto sax and Amit the Clarinet in this song.
Collaboration Indian Ocean has been wanting to collaborate with artists from all over the world. We have played with other artists impromptu and live on several occasions (Shubha Mudgal, L Subramaniam, Rabbi Shergill, Kailash Kher, Kazutoki Umezu come to mind), but want to explore more formal compositional collaboration. We are curious about what artists our listeners would like to hear us in collaboration with, so here is your chance to suggest musicians! We have a few names here that occur to us, but would love to hear your views on the subject, so please feel free to choose from these artists.
